At Arden IT we think that Cyber security should be considered as a ‘hot topic’ in regards to IT support. Security and system protection is incredibly important. Here are just a few actions that your company could do to improve your cyber security. If you’re still unsure, we’re here to help you safeguard both your employees and your business’s data.
Undertake a cyber security audit
You’d be surprised at the number of companies that don’t regularly carry out security checks. At Arden IT we strongly recommend these precautions. ‘It’s better to be ‘safe than sorry’.
Usually security audits entail either a manual or systematic measurable technical assessment of a system or application. Manual assessments largely involve employee interviews and selective scans. Whereas an automated audit would involve using system generated audit reports or using software to monitor and report changes.
Educate your team
Never under estimate the importance of staff education. When it comes to Cyber security, employees are your first form of defence. Ensuring that all members of staff are aware of the dangers associated is more than important – it’s crucial. Clear and concise rules need to be implicated amongst employees to ensure that they comply with company polices regarding brand identity security but also data related issues too.
A strong password is an absolute must!
A strong password is the NO.1 rule! Implicate authentication processes, automated password changes and set a template for how a password should be constructed. We advise at least 8 characters, 1 upper case, 3 numbers and a 1 special character e.g. Se3curi!ty23
Encrypt your data
Removable date sources such as hard drives and USB sticks need to have some form of encryption. Most employees use these forms of resources on a regular basis. The data on these external sources need to be protected, it’s easy enough to misplace or potentially lose them. Save yourself the stress and make sure they’re protected.
Cyber secure policies
Help secure your working environment and enforce security policies for your staff. These security policies can include anything from guidance on personal devices to those bought to work and connected to the corporations network. Wherever an individual externally associates himself or herself with your brand – make them aware of the conditions upon which they do so and in addition have further implications in place if they do not comply.
At Arden IT we can help you with your cyber security plan, and accompanying security policies. Simple practices such as: limiting access to employee groups to stopping users customising and downloading external software. Contact us for more details.
